Blog Reader and Blogs
I chose NewsBar as my Blog Reader for a couple of reasons. Mainly, I wanted one that is compatible with my Mac and iOS devices. I also wanted a feed that is easy to access and has a clean layout. I like how NewsBar is right on my desktop. I really preferred a free reader, however after looking at several, I found that most cost a few dollars and some even cost a monthly subscription fee. I knew I didn't want to pay monthly, so forking over $5 upfront isn't too bad (NewsBar is $4.99 on the Mac app store).
Now, on to the reason I need a reader in the first place...to follow some great blogs! I chose to follow these five blogs:
1. YA Books and More - https://yabooksandmoreblog.wordpress.com
I chose this blog for excellent recommendations on YA books. I also like that this blog is written by two teacher-librarians who are passionate about libraries, librarians, and educational technology. They are also very active on Twitter and big on library advocacy.
2. Kiss the Book - https://kissthebook.blogspot.com
This blog is great for reviews of books for the entire K-12 spectrum. I especially like that the books are reviewed by school and public librarians and over 1000 books are reviewed a year. There are even ARC giveaways!
3. Nerdy Book Club - https://nerdybookclub.wordpress.com
This is another fun blog to read for book reviews. I like how this blog is organized a little differently, with more pictures and graphics to click on to link you to the blog posts. There are also posts by authors and even a store for cool Nerdy Book Club merchandise!
4. Unpretentious Librarian - http://unpretentiouslibrarian.blogspot.com
This blog is a bit different in that it is not simply book reviews, but more geared toward secondary school libraries as a whole. I like that the posts are helpful and promote collaboration among fellow librarians.
5. STACKED - http://stackedbooks.org
This blog drew me in immediately with its blog post titled "Anne of Green Gables: Retellings and Homages." I am a huge fan of Anne and love that they have chosen to review the new Anne literature that is out for babies and young children, tweens, and teens. I also like the Book Riot links like "5 documentaries for book lovers you can stream right now." The two ladies behind this blog have loads of public library experience, particularly in teen and youth departments.

That's a new feeder I haven't heard about. I will look into it. I also noticed we chose different blogs to follow. I will take a second look at those as well. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI liked how you found this feeder. I have read some posts and this one was not mentioned often. I like how it is compatible with Mac products. I have a desktop and sometimes I struggle, because not all things are compatible. YA books was also one that I followed I think these feeders are a great way to keep informed.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't visited the " Kiss the Book " blog I took a visit and I like how you mentioned how this blog is reviewed by school and school librarians. Great blog to get title books that we might be interested in buying or sharing with our students.

I am not familiar with the feeder you found. I will need to investigate it further to see if it would be compatible for my iPad. I also plan to look it the blogs you posted. Thank you for increasing my feeder knowledge and informing me about more blogs that will be of interest to me.
