The Three Pigs
Wiesner, D. (2001). The three pigs. New York, NY: Clarion
Books.
Don’t be fooled by this title! It is unlike any book about the three
little pigs you have ever read. Kids will get a kick out of the pigs breaking
the rules and trying to “escape” the story. They will love the pictures set to
look like a normal picture book with the pigs running across the page of the
book. Not only do they escape the story and save themselves from the big bad
wolf, but they also fold up the pages into paper airplanes and fly away into
other stories! This book is fun to read and kids will definitely laugh at
seeing how a book that looks normal from the cover completely breaks all the
rules.
This book is excellent for a read aloud. Parents and teachers alike can use it to show kids to not always judge a book by its cover and also to use their imagination in thinking of new plots and twists in classic fairy tales.
