Frogs
Bishop, N. (2008). Frogs.
New York, NY: Scholastic Nonfiction.
This book is a great introduction to all things frogs! Nic Bishop is a master at both capturing amazing, eye-popping images of frogs and describing interesting facts about frogs that kids will love learning. The big, colorful photos are truly the highlight of this book, but you will also learn things like where frogs live, the difference between frogs and toads, how frogs use their tongues to catch prey, and even a frog's life cycle. One of the best pictures in the book is of a gliding frog flying though the air. Bishop has managed to zoom in enough so the reader can see the details of the frog's webbed feet and how there are suckers on their toes to grab leaves as they land.
My own five-year-old son went crazy over this book the day I brought it home. He was begging me to read it to him! Any child who loves nature, amphibians, or just great photos, will love this book. This is also a great book for kids to read for a research project. The information is written in a way that is easy for kids to understand and so many photos to go along with the text.
