Mirror, Mirror: A Book of Reversible Verse
Singer, M. (2011). Mirror,
mirror: A book of reversible verse. New York, NY: Scholastic.
This book cleverly combines poetry and fairy tales in poems that can be read both forward and backward, each one with its own story to tell. Each reversible poem has a matching pictures to match that mirror each other as well. Fairy tales include Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood, The Ugly Duckling, Snow White, Jack and the Beanstalk, and many more.
Children will love listening to and reading these fun poems that can be read two different ways. They will also love recognizing familiar fairy tale characters in each poem. I recommend sharing this book as a read aloud to children to get them excited about poetry. You can even teach how placing different punctuation at the end of the verses can totally change the meaning. These are fun to read!
