I have always thought of genres as being fiction, nonfiction, historical fiction, humor, fantasy, science fiction, poetry, etc. However after this assignment, I realize that often what we think is a genre is not. I think it will be important to teach my students about genres and formats so that they know what they are and what they are not. I would like to give my students examples of certain genre books in different formats like Dr. Perry did in the video.
