I Hunt Killers

Lyga, B. (2012). I hunt killers. New York, NY: Little, Brown.

Jasper "Jazz" Dent is not your average teenage boy. He is the son of the world's most infamous serial killer now serving multiple life sentences behind bars. He grew up being brainwashed by his father and observed some of his dad's most heinous crimes. He doesn't know what happened to his mother, but he is fairly certain that she is another one of his dad's victims. So, now that his dad is in jail he lives with his senile grandmother under the constant fear that one day he will be sent off to foster care. He tries to maintain somewhat of a normal life, but feels like an outcast at school due to the fact everyone knows who his dad is. His best friend, Howie, and girlfriend, Connie, are his closest allies and when murders start to occur around his town that bear a strong resemblance to the murders his father committed, they all work together to find out who the new serial killer is.

This book is fast-paced and has a great main character, Jazz, who keeps you intrigued as he navigates his own identity separate from his father. It is interesting as the reader to experience his inner turmoil as he fights urges that frighten him and tries to figure out who he is. The mystery of who is killing and whether it is truly another serial killer will keep you guessing throughout the whole book.
