It's Perfectly Normal: Changing Bodies, Growing Up, Sex, and Sexual Health
Harris, R. H. (2009). It's Perfectly Normal: Changing Bodies, Growing Up, Sex, and Sexual Health. Boston, MA: Candlewick Press.
This book is similar to the version Harris wrote for younger children called It's So Amazing!: A Book about Eggs, Sperm, Birth, Babies, and Families, except it is more mature and filled with much more detailed information pertaining to sexual health and issues that are unique to the young adult age group. It answers honest questions like "What is Sex?" and how the body continues to change during puberty. It even includes information on touchy subjects like heterosexuality vs. homosexuality, STD's, abortion, and HIV.
I think this book is a great resource for parents to use in discussing some of life's tough questions with their teens. It is a great way to get conversations started and provide factual answers as opposed to teens finding out on their own from peers and the internet. It can be useful in providing information to teens considering sexual activity, as it gives real scenarios of how easy it can be to get pregnant and contract diseases.
